A Comparison of Non-Performance Characteristics With United States Air Force Officer Promotions
Abstract
The question of which non-performance factors influence the promotion of officers to major, lieutenant colonel, and colonel within the Air Force for Promotion Boards held in 1992 is the focus of this thesis. The thesis statistically examines the impact of the variables commissioning source, prior enlistment, age, aeronautical rating, graduate education level obtained and source of education, Professional Military Education courses taken and method of completion, distinguished graduate status from commissioning source and Professional Military Education courses for in-the-zone promotions. Multivariate logistics regression techniques are used to analyze and identify those variables significant to promotion. Odds-ratios are used to determine the sensitivity of each variable.
