Historical Research and Archeological Reconnaissance of the Mandeville Seawall Replacement, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana

Abstract

The study reported in this volume focused on the beachfront area (south of Lakeshore Drive) between West Beach Parkway and Bayou Castine, an area of approximately 44.5 acres. Seven backhoe trenches were excavated. Only a few artifacts were recovered, and most of these were non-diagnostic. Two of the trenches were placed at the suspected location of a portion of the 1895 wooden seawall. These trenches indicated that the seawall is in an advanced state of deterioration. The results of this study indicate that proposed construction will not impact significant archeological resources. Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish, Lake Pontchartrain, Seawall.
