The United States Air Force Reserve: Past, Present, and Future

Abstract

This paper will explore the history of the Air Force Reserve from 1916. It will touch on several of the highlight issues that have shaped AFRES into today's fighting force. Following this brief history, will be a discussion of the organization of the contemporary AFRES and its contribution to the Total Force. The final portion of the paper discusses the direction of AFRES in the future with emphasis on roles and missions and selection criteria for these roles and missions. It concludes with several recommendations for senior AFRES leadership.
