Steps toward Understanding the Solar Dynamo

Abstract

The standard model of the solar dynamo, the mean-field models has numerous problems. Observational and theoretical tests of a new model of the solar dynamo, the fluxtube model, were needed to determine whether it might replace the standard model. Under this project we have made a variety of tests - that show the fluxtube model is better able to explain the observed properties of the magnetic fields on the Sun. During the course of this project, the deep involvement of students in the research and the upgrade of research facilities have improved the University's capabilities for providing technical education.
