Titanium-6A1-4V Low Density Inclusion Problem

Abstract

This memorandum reviews a current material's problem area with respect to undesirable low density inclusions being produced in Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The potential catastrophic effect of these defects is indicated, possible sources of the contamination discussed, limitations with respect to available NDT techniques described and recommendations made for further work on the problem.
