Occupational Conversion Index: Enlisted/Officer/Civilian

Abstract

This index is a compilation of DoD officer and enlisted occupational specialties and Civil Service 'white collar' and 'blue collar' occupations under two similar occupational grouping structures. The first structure contains enlisted occupations, certain occupations in the General Schedule (GS) series, and most wage occupations; the second structure contains commissioned and warrant officer occupations, the remainder of the GS occupations, and a few wage board occupations. These two structures are documented in the tables that follows the introductory material. The third tabular section is an index, organized by occupation within Service/Civil Service. For each occupation, a corresponding title is displayed, along with the DoD Occupation code to which it is assigned. This index is intended to serve as an occupational coding structure, designed to group similar occupations from one or more populations into a logical and consistent structure suitable for a variety of analytical purpose, in manpower management and policy planning for various personnel administration functions, and as a basis for statistical reports.
