An Implementation Plan for a Hospital-Wide Recycling Program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas

Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to establish an implementation plan for a recycling program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, implement and evaluate a pilot program, and provide a restatement of the hospital-wide recycling program plan based on the pilot study. The program will be composed of three essential components: a recycling team, data collection, and program design. Success evaluation criteria for the program will include: (1) demonstrated revenue generation/cost savings; (2) effective staff education; (3) specific data collection; (4) demonstrated compliance with hospital safety standards; and (5) surveys of hospital personnel. In addition to compliance with federal mandate, military health care facilities which recycle can secure environmental, financial, and employee morale/ community relations benefits. The William Beaumont hospital-wide recycling program will include: increased command emphasis, improved education/communication, collection and expansion, and utilization of recycled paper.
