Deployable Acoustic Projector System (DAPS) Energy Source Study

Abstract

Results of a study of potential fuel cell sources which may power the Deployable Acoustic Projector System (DAPS) are presented. Several SPE hydrogen/ oxygen fuel cell configurations are investigated along with various reactant storage options. The three membranes studied are Nafion 120, Nafion 117, and Dow. Reactant storage options include gas storage tankage, cryogenic flasks, metal hydrides and chemical storage. Reactant storage options at 3000 psi and 6000 psi are discussed. Conversion of the SPE fuel cell to ac or use of an inverter are also discussed. Also presented is system safety and reliability information along with weight, volume, and cost trade-offs for the various hardware configurations.
