Chemistry and Electrochemistry in Lewis Acid and Superacid Ionic Liquids

Abstract

Studies in an ambient temperature chloroaluminate molten salt composed of aluminum chloride and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride were carried out. A variety of topics were investigated. Work on poly(p-phenylene) and silane based electroactive polymers was carried out. The electrochemistry of several Ru and Co complexes was examined, as was the kinetics of the ferroceneferrocenium couple as a function. of melt viscosity. The electrochemistry of anthracene and 9,10 anthraquinone was examined under conditions where protonation of these species was important. Finally, proton speciation and proton equilibrium were examined by NMR and FT-IR spectroscopies. Chloroaluminates, Ionic liquids, Electrochmistry, Nuclear magnetic resonance, Electroactive polymers.
