Development of a Squadron Premishap Training Program

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to develop a course of instruction to teach key squadron safety personnel basic principles involved with aircraft mishap investigation, reporting, and management. While Aviation Safety Officers and Aircraft Mishap Board Senior Members do receive some instruction in the process of mishap investigation and related procedures, no training is available that provides 'hands-on' experience in actually conducting mishap investigations, preparing mishap investigation reports, and managing an investigation effort in a realistic operational setting. Instructional Systems Development procedures were used to develop a training program based on analysis of knowledge and skills required to carry out the duties of squadron AMB members, duty office watch teams, and other relevant squadron personnel. The final course of instruction consists of three major segments, one for AMB training, one for the Squadron Duty Office Watch Team, and another for a base- wide Simulation exercise.
