Conditional Probability Density Functions Arising in Bearing Estimation

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to calculate and discuss some of the properties of probability density functions of bearing angle conditioned on the data receive an array of sensors. The development of the thesis goes through three major stages. The first stage of the development is the theoretical derivation of the probability density function. The second stage of the development concerns the calculation of the density function with examples. This development includes a detailed discussion of the simulation used to produce the data on which the density functions are conditioned and the code written to do the actual computations. The third stage of the development is the analysis of estimates which are made using the calculated density functions. This stage includes comparison of the results obtained using the calculated density functions and a better known performance measure: the Cramer-Rao bound.
