Development of a Spindle Thermal Error Characterization and Compensation Sensor System for Machining Center Accuracy Enhancement

Abstract

Automated Precision Incorporated under contract with Wright Laboratory's Manufacturing Technology Directorate has developed a low cost, real-time, sensor/computer based, high performance spindle thermal modeling and compensation system for production computer numeric control (CNC) machining centers.
