Atomic Processes Relevant to Antimatter Fuel Production and Storage

Abstract

Electric field effects have been identified in the dissociative recombination of H3+ ions. This process proceeds via the formation of high lying Rydberg states that are field ionized in the ion analyser in our apparatus. Reducing this field results in measured cross section five times larger than with the normal operating field. A brief update on measurements of simulated radiative recombination of He+ is presented
