AASERT-92 Observational Analysis of the Origin of Non-Double Couple Seismic Sources

Abstract

The funding in ASSERT Grant NO F49620-93-1-0368 is primarily for Paul Nyffenegger, a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been working with a colleague, Lian-She Zhao, to modify a computer program to construct synthetic seismograms using the reflectivity method so that he can evaluate broadband non-double-couple signals, and comparing his primarily results with data for small earthquakes in California. He continues to collect data for specific large, non-double earthquakes form the IRIS DMS data archives in Seattle. We expect to present some preliminary results from this research at the Air Force meetings in New York in September.
