Cost Analysis of the Military Medical Care System: Data, Cost Functions, and Peacetime Care

Abstract

In response to a congressional request, the DoD is conducting a comprehensive review of its military medical care system. IDA has been tasked with analyzing the cost of DoD's in-house medical facilities, under both current policies and proposed alternatives. This paper describes the data used in the analysis and the cost functions that were estimated. The paper also assesses the in-house costs of two policy alternatives for the provision of medical care during peacetime.
