Evaluation of Personal Multigas Monitors
Abstract
Eight different makes of multigas monitors were evaluated for use by U.S. Coast Guard field personnel. The meters were evaluated with regard to: linearity of response to methane, oxygen and hydrogen sulfide levels; ability to do remote sampling, accuracy for each type of gas; alarm response time, portability, bulk, eight (8) hour battery charge (for NiCad versions) (dry cell versions also tested when available); ease of use; temperature and humidity effects, and resistance to shock of impacts. Two of the instruments were significantly better than the rest in most respects
