Rape and the Serial Rapist

Abstract

A rape occurs in this country almost every five minutes. In addition, recidivism rates indicate that after five years, over thirty percent of rapists recommit the crime. Various studies have been conducted in an attempt to explain the behavior and motivation of the rapist. From these studies, several typologies have been developed. This study critically analyzes these typologies. In addition, it takes a punctilious look at the elements of rape (e.g., verbalization, sexual acts, levels and type of violence).
