Florida Gulf Stream Data (FLDA) Current Study

Abstract

The Surveillance Systems Branch of the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center (R&D Center) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, New London Detachment (NUWCNL) had conducted an earlier study of the Coast Guard Computer Assisted Search Planning (CASP) program's southern Gulf Stream Florida Data (FLDA) environmental file. The study found errors in the FLDA environmental file data. The tasking for this project was to replace the corrupted (old) FLDA files with reconstructed (new) data files derived from data obtained in the original research by Nova University. The derived data files were created by merging Nova University Gulf Stream transect current data onto background data from Atlas of Pilot Charts. The data was then divided into 12 monthly sets, and verified for continuity and accuracy. The 12 new monthly FLDA data sets were then prepared for transfer to the Coast Guard Operations Systems Center (OSC) computer.
