Photoionized Cluster Beams 1. Inter- and Intramolecular Reactivity 2. Generation of Superconducting Thin Films

Abstract

New Chemical Reactions Within Clusters: For (C2H2F2)(n)(+), (C2H4)(n) (+) and ((CH3)2O)(n)(+) clusters, we have observed new ion-molecule reactions which do not occur in the gas phase. Both of these reaction mechanisms are rationalized in that the typically unstable intermediate, can exist in the stabilizing environment of the cluster on a long enough time scale for the reaction to proceed.
