Strategic Defense Initiative Program: Extent of Foreign Participation

Abstract

The Strategic Defense Initiative Program announced by President Reagan in 1983 is intended to conduct research on possible ballistic defense systems for the United and its allies. Since 1985 allied countries have participated in this program. Because of concerns about the amount of foreign contracts, the Chairman Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. House Committee on Energy Commerce asked GAO to analyze the level the level and type of foreign participation in the Strategic Defense Initiative Program
