Time-Resolved, High-Resolution, X-Ray Microscopy of In-Vitro Biological and Life Science Specimens with the Aid of Laser Plasmas

Abstract

The intent of this contract was to help create an x-ray microscopy facility at the Laser Plasma Laboratory at CREOL specially dedicated to applications to biology. The hope of this contract was that, in setting up a dedicated facility here in the US, we might attract the collaboration of medical and biological researchers, and thereby demonstrate the usefulness of this form of x-ray analysis. Hopefully then further development of this approach could then be supported by research funds from the medical and biological sciences. We have been successful in this endeavor. We have established a facility for biological microscopy. This facility will soon be a dedicated facility to this activity. We have produced our own x-ray images of biological specimens. Most encouragingly, we have formed collaboration with several groups of biologists and medical scientists to exploit this technology further.
