Oxidation Resistant Coating for Carbon-Carbon Composites at Ultra-High Temperatures
Abstract
A novel coating to protect carbon-carbon composites (C-C) from oxidation at temperatures as high as 1600 deg - 2000 deg C was investigated. The duplex coating consists of an inner diffusion barrier of carbon fiber reinforced iridium or rhodium and an outer layer of plasma sprayed lanthanum hafnate
