The renovation of the Alachua County Detention Facility presented many different complex and unique problems that made it an ideal project to study. There were two similarities to a typical Navy project. The owner of the facility is a government agency, Alachua County, and this creates interesting challenges because the contractor must deal with the realities of government bureaucracy. Second, renovation is not as straight forward as new construction.
