Preparation and Investigation of Improved Low Voltage Electron Excitable Phosphors

Abstract

In the final report, we describe the work carried out on the investigation and development of low voltage phosphors for field emission displays. The standard blue-green ZnO:Zn was improved considerably and now yields very high luminance. New methods were developed which produced good, saturated green zinc gallate phosphor. A novel, narrow band calcium titanate red phosphor has been synthesised, as well as a broader band zinc magnesium oxide blue emitter. The synthesis and characteristics of these materials are described and analysed. Future work is suggested. Samples of all good phosphors were supplied to Fort Monmouth, as well as seven US firms.
