Industrial Development and Economic Growth of the Republic of China in Historical Perspective.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine historically industrial development and economic growth in the Republic of China on Taiwan to ascertain the factors leading its remarkable economic performance in the past forty-some years. To achieve the purpose, this study reviewed the broad sweep of human economic history from thousands of years in prehistory up to modern times. This study also briefly observed alternative developmental experiences of industrialization in several major countries, such as Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, Japan, South Korea, and some other countries around the world. Meanwhile, the contributing factors which are seen as the ingredients of industrialization were illustrated. Additionally, political and economic evolution in Pacific Asia was another focal point introduced in this study. This study was specifically centered around Taiwan and its industrial development. Finally, this study concludes by providing lessons learned from reviewing the history of human industrialization, and some recommendations for future research were made.
