Tooling for War: Military Transformation in the Industrial Age

Abstract

A study of war over the past century and half clearly shows that technology has been a major agent of change. This bibliography lists works which examine the process of innovation in military technology and its political, social, and cultural framework. The bibliography was compiled at the request of the Department of History in support of the 16th Military History Symposium, which will be held at the United States Air Force Academy from 21 to 23 September 1994. The bibliography lists a selected portion of the US Air Force Academy Library's holdings on the indicated topic. Included are books, government publications, journal articles, and technical reports; neither newspaper articles nor works of fiction are included. The purpose of this compilation is to promote understanding and analysis of military technical innovation. The choice of works dealing with military hardware was highly selective.
