Investigations Into Alternate Spark Gap Switching Techniques

Abstract

This report documents the design, operation, and experimental results of the evaluation of a new spark gap triggering method. These spark gaps were developed to support ARL's ongoing nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) current injection assessment programs. This trigger method provides operator control, multiple spark gap control with synchronous triggering, and a limited amount of hardware to control the spark gap triggering. A patent application has been started for this device and has been assigned case number HDL No. 94-3.
