Digital Optical Computing.

Abstract

Within our previous report, we have described a digital computer architecture, the HOPLA, and algorithms that effectively exploit that architecture. Within the present report, we shall examine the theoretical performance of the HOPLA, implementing various configurations of the multiread function. The present report consists of the following. The first section consists of a review of the semi-quantitative analysis of the N4 interconnect. In the next section, we apply this analysis to the case of the proposed HOPLA implementation. Proceeding with the results from this section, we then consider the required threshholds and reliability levels of the system under various operating conditions. Finally, we consider the effects of operation at very low power levels with an emphasis on the effects of shot noise.
