FFT Space Processing for the ACF of SPREE Particle Flux Measurements.

Abstract

This manuscript is intended to describe the processing and the X Window display of the Fourier transform of the autocorrelation measurement from the SPREE particle correlator Experiment (SPACE). The SPREE was flown aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis flight STS 46 as part of the Tethered Satellite System (TSS 1). SPACE is essentially a signal processing unit that analyzes the particle fluxes from the SPREE electrostatic analyzers (ESA) to identify wave-particle modulations. The SPACE outputs ACF data containing information on the wave particle modulations. An efficient way to examine these modulations is by means of the Fourier Transform techniques. The SPACE Fourier analysis and display tools, which are part of the SIDAT package, are presented. These tools use color raster graphics and text displays based on the X11 and XView X Window System libraries on Sun SPARC workstations.
