Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation of the Dynamics of Flexible Structures Undergoing Large Overall Motions.

Abstract

This document is a final report of the research sponsored by AFOSR under contract No. F49620-91-C-0048-P0002 with Stanford University. This research effort focused on the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of the dynamics of flexible structures undergoing large overall motions. The results reported below fall within the following areas: (i) Enhanced numerical models for shell intersections, (ii) Asymptotic methods for nonlinear shells, and (iii) Conserving time-stepping algorithms for nonlinear dynamics.
