Detailed Analysis of Alternatives for Organic Contaminant Removal.

Abstract

THE SOUTH ADAMS COUNTY WATER AND SANITATION DISTRICT'S SHALLOW ALLUVIAL WELLS ARE CONTAMINATED WITH A VARIETY OF VOLATILE AND NON-VOLATILE ORGANIC CHEMICALS. PREVIOUS STUDIES HAVE DETERMINED THAT GRANULAR ACTIVATED CARBON IS THE MOST FEASIBLE METHOD OF TREATMENT FOR REMOVAL OF THE ORGANIC CONTAMINANTS FROM THE DISTRICT'S DRINKING WATER SUPPLY. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO PERFORM A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE WATER SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS AND THE GAC TREATMENT ALTERNATIVES WITH REGARD TO COST, CONSTRUCTABILITY, AND RELIABILITY IN MEETING WATER QUALITY GOALS. ALONG WITH RECOMMENDATIONS, DETAILED FINDINGS ARE PRESENTED ON: (1) WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND; (2) WATER QUALITY; (3) WATER COLLECTION, PUMPING, AND DISTRIBUTION MODIFICATIONS; (4) WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES; (5) ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPORT FACILITIES. -BKA
