International Trade: Foreign Market Development for High Value Agricultural Products.

Abstract

Some foreign competitors, particularly in the European Community, have highly developed marketing networks in place, which have con- tributed to an expanded share of the lucrative high value agricultural product market. Because information about foreign competitors' market development programs is limited, the Chairmen of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Committee on Agriculture asked GAO to obtain information about foreign market devel- opment programs, including the roles of the public and private sectors, and to compare foreign and U.S. high value agricultural market development. pg3.
