Environmental Effects of Dredging Program. Interim Procedures for Estimating Mixing Zones for Effluent From Dredged Material Disposal Sites (Single-Point Discharge).

Abstract

This technical note presents a simple analytical method for evaluating the size of mixing zones for effluents from confined dredged material disposal areas. The method involves a simplistic two-dimensional calculation based on dispersion principles. Discussions of the applicability and limitations of the technique and a stepwise procedure for performing the required calculations are presented. Recommendations for using computer-based approaches for more complex conditions are also discussed. pg1, JMD
