Creating an Organizational Infrastructure to Manage EDI for the Military Traffic Management Command.

Abstract

The Military Traffic Management Command has made several significant investments in electronic data interchange (EDI). By the end of FY96, it will have developed seven EDI applications involving more than 900 EDI trading partners and 15 public standards. To manage such a massive program MTMC needs a corporate direction.' We recommend that MTMC establish an EDI Coordination Office reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Information Management and form a permanent EDI Coordination Committee consisting of representatives of all MTMC components with EDI interests. Many private-sector companies that are successfully using EDI have adopted similar approaches.
