Brigham Young University Science Bulletin. Volume 17. Ectoparasites of Venezuela.

Abstract

In recent years such well-known scientists as George Gaylord Simpson and Theodosius Dobzhansky have drawn attention to the paucity of animal species in northern latitudes and the abundance of species in the tropics. Water retention, sources and availability of energy, and niche diversity have been mentioned as factors which should be considered in accounting for this disparity. Abundance of animal species and individuals is of interest to epidemiologists.
