Results of A Level I Cultural Resource Inventory of Streambank Areas, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

Abstract

Twenty newly recorded and two previously recorded cultural resources were encountered within the approximately 263 acre inventory area in the Silver Creek and Tarr Creek watersheds at Fort McCoy; another seven cultural resources along or near the streambanks are known from previous inventory work. The number of cultural resources encountered includes a previously recorded building, five historic sites, two historic isolated finds, nine prehistoric sites, three prehistoric isolated finds and one site with both a historic and a prehistoric component. A previously recorded site, 47Mo54, was extended to include areas identified during this inventory. Formal archeological testing and/or research is necessary to determine the National Register of Historic Places eligibility of 14 of the sites identified during this project. (MM)
