A Simple and Accurate Technique for Monitoring Crack Growth Behavior Using a Wave Form Analyzer

Abstract

A technique for monitoring the change in compliance of a standard three-point bend specimen during fatigue cycling has been developed. This method allows for accurate measurement of the load-line displacement it changes that occur as a crack grows from the notch. The significance of this technique is that it allows accurate determination of crack grows behavior throughout the life cycle of the specimen when a clip gage is impractical or impossible to use.
