Methods and Components for Optical Contention Resolution in High Speed Networks.

Abstract

The CRO unit was completed and shipped to Stanford for incorporation in the network testbed. Evaluation of polarization stability of the CRO has revealed a significant difference between the GTE Laboratories environment and Stanford's laboratory. Progress was made in development of the digital optical switch; and another RIE mask with finer segmentation in each curved region has been designed. The first 'proof of principle' of operation of 2 x 2-switches has been demonstrated using previously fabricated X-switches. Finally, in mid-April, 75% of the wafers ordered from EPI products arrived.
