Weather Forecasting, Radar Availability Requirement Not Being Met.

Abstract

NEXRAD is a Doppler radar system that measures wind velocity in severe weather, tracks storm movement and intensity, and generates data and imagery for forecasters and other users, such as air traffic controllers. NEXRAD is expected to provide improved weather radar information, thus increasing the accuracy, timeliness, and credibility for warnings of severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash floods, turbulence, wind shear, and other types of hazardous weather and related events. The radars are also expected to be extremely useful in analyzing a variety of other weather events, including estimating accumulated rainfall and analyzing large-scale precipitation systems. (MM)
