To Model Tidal Structure in the Shallow Water of the lceland-Faeroes Ridge Region.

Abstract

An investigation into the levels of internal tide energy in the lceland-Faeroes ridge region has been carried out using both current meter observations and predictions from a three-dimensional ocean circulation model forced by tidal current predictions from a barotropic model. The work has proved successful in that the model runs are stable and in places make reasonable predictions. Two tidal constituents have been examined, M2 and 01. In general the predicted internal tide energy levels are too low, however, and further work is planned. (AN)
