Abstract
This report summarizes the results of GEO-CENTERS' technical activities for the second quarter of the contractual base year for the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) under Contract N00014-95-D-0048, Delivery Order No.OOl. This delivery order encompasses a variety of scientific studies that are capable of supporting ongoing and projected programs under the cognizance of NMRI; NMRl TOX/DET-Dayton, OH; NDRI-Great Lakes, IL; the NDRI Detachment-Bethesda, MD; and the National Naval Medical Center-Bethesda, MD. The format for these periodic technical progress reports consists of four sections each listed by the location of the research. The sections are (1) Descriptions of work to be performed, (2) Objectives planned for the current reporting period, (3) Significant results, and (4) Objectives for the next reporting period. Accumulated scientific reports, technical reports and journal articles will be provided as part of the annual technical progress reports. Specifically, the research conducted by GEO-CENTEKS during this quarterly reporting period has been focused on the following general scientific programs: (1) Infectious disease threat assessment and enterics programs. (2) Toxicological studies. (3) Immune cell biology, wound repair and artificial blood studies. (4) Biomedical diving programs.
