Equipment and Instrumentation to Develop Nonlinear Optical Materials for Photonic and Laser Technologies.

Abstract

Acquiring the necessary infrastructure for conducting research in the area of photonic and laser technologies, the major objective of this proposal, has been accomplished through the acquisition of a number of key instruments. Our newly established Laser Assisted Experiments (LAE) facility is now equipped to conduct experiments related to all three major nonlinear optical (NLO) phenomena of polymers: (1) second order NLO effect, applicable to second harmonic generation and linear electrooptic effect (2) third order NLO effect, applicable to integrated optics such as optical switching and optical data processing and (3) photorefractive effect, applicable to real time holography and optical phase conjugation.
