Center Valley.

Abstract

This report is an effort to provide an understanding of a former rural community which existed from about 1860 until 1941. The name of the community was Center Valley and it was located in southeastern Sebastian County, Arkansas. The study attempts to provide an historical context for the evaluation of the archeological remains of the area's numerous farms. Since this locality is located within a portion of the Fort Chaffee Military Garrison which is likely to contain unexploded munitions, no field work was undertaken as part of this investigation. The reconstruction of the life of this community and its numerous farms and families depends upon a study of documentary, photographic, cartographic, and oral historical sources. These investigations were sponsored by the Fort Chaffee Military Garrison. (MM)
