Staffing the Joint Task Force. An Opportunity for Team Building.

Abstract

This paper compares and contrasts three concepts for staffing Joint Task Force (JTF) command elements: (1) The creation of standing JTF staffs trained by U,S. Atlantic Command (USACOM) and provisioned with the standard communications and automation packages required to work in any of the regional unified areas. (2) Designation of the theater service component commanders as the Commanders of Joint Task Forces (CJTF'S) established in their operating areas and the use of elements of their component staff as the nucleus of the JTF. (3) The use of an element of the Unified Commanders Staff (E.G., J-3, J-4 or J-5) as the JTF, with augmentation from the theater component staffs and the joint staff as delineated above.
