A Configurable Task Environment for Learning Research.

Abstract

The report describes software specifically developed to facilitate the conduct of research in learning processes. This simulation-based environment provides a real-time task that can be configured by the experimenter to be extremely simple or impossibly complex and difficult The software provides features designed specifically for experimental use, including: automatic generation of exercise scenarios, automatic recording of performance data, integrated coordination with an external decision-making model, exercise replay capabilities, and time-scaling. The software system also offers considerable potential as a training system, in that it can simulate air/sea conditions that must be managed by a decision-maker in the Combat Information Center (CIC) onboard an AEGIS class vessel.
