Operation Avalanche: Prelude to Stalemate a Case Study in Operational Unit.

Abstract

This case study examines Operation Avalanche, the initial phase of the Allied Campaign in Italy, as a case study in Operational Art. As a joint and combined amphibious operation, avalanche provides useful lessons for future warfare in a long littoral and a well-defended enemy.
