WWVB Baseline Measurements: Summary, Findings, and Recommendations.
Abstract
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) operates a 60-kHz timing signal transmitter, known as WWVB, at a site near Fort Collins. Colorado. This system has redundant transmitters and antenna systems and was thought to radiate about 13 kW. NIST commissioned the Naval Command, Control and Ocean Surveillance Center. Research, Development, Test and Evaluation Division (NRaD) to make baseline performance measurements that could support the design of a 6-dB upgrade. The measurements are reported in NRaD TR 1693. This document (TR 1692) provides a summary of the measurement results, a recommended upgrade configuration, and recommendations.
