Reaction Kinetics of Mo(a(7)S3, a(5)D4, a(5)S2) with CO2, N2O, SO2, and NO,

Abstract

The gas phase reactivities of Mo(a(7)S3, a5Dj, a(5)S2) with CO2, NO, SO2, and N2O were measured under pseudo-first order conditions (Mo<<OXIDANT). The reactivities were measured over a temperature range of 297-600K and a pressure range of 20-300 Torr using an argon buffer. Mo atoms were produced by the photodissociation of Mo(CO)6 or MoCl4 and detected by laser-induced fluorescence. The concentration of Mo during its reaction with the oxidants was measured as a function of laser delay. This temporal behavior of Mo yields first order decay rate constants from which second order rate constants are determined. Biexponential behavior was noted in N2O and CO2 reacting with Mo (a(5)S2). jg p.4
