Effective Non-Linear Refractive Index of Various Optical Materials.

Abstract

Photoinduced effective nonlinearity, n, of BSO crystal is measured by using a Z-scan method which is based on the self focusing defocusing effect. The Z-scan technique is a simple yet accurate way to measure n2. An optical limiter utilizing photo induced lensing is investigated and the influence of spatial self phase modulation for strong CW illumination is presented.
