Analysis of Freshwater Mussels (Unionidae), Big Sunflower River Maintenance Project: 1993 Studies.

Abstract

The U.S. Army Engineer District, Vicksburg, plans to dredge reaches of the Big and Little Sunflower Rivers, Mississippi, to improve flood conveyance and reduce local flooding. In the 196Os, snags were removed from much of the river, and a few short reaches were dredged. The proposed work will be accomplished mainly with a hydraulic dredge in order to minimize adverse environmental impacts.
